Before we get to giddy about Rummy getting the boot (which was obviously planned weeks ago, another example of GW lying through his teeth), what do we know about his replacement.  The news stories I've heard today have been soft pedaling him as a "career diplomat whose rose through the ranks, and wasn't chosen as a political payoff".

That's refreshing, he's even a former Eagle Scout.  Stupid me, I was thinking of worst case scenarios.  Here's a real nightmare; suppose GW chose a crony of Bush 41, deeply tied in with the CIA, maybe even a former director of the spooks.  Oh, and to make it even jucier, maybe we could have him in bed with the Iran dirty tricks that got Reagan elected, like the guy in Kevin Phillips' book "American Dynasty" who met with William Casey and representatives of the Ayathollah, first in Paris and later in Spain to negotiate to keep the American hostages held til after the Presidential election in order to help Ronald Reagan win the election.

Oh, wait a minute - same guy:
