I just added a new feature to the Italian Harvest website; the ability to create custom gift baskets.  They have hundreds of exquisite food and decorative products imported from Italy, and do offer some stock gift baskets, but felt it would be good to allow their customers to use their imagination and creativity to create their own.

I'm quite pleased with the way this feature turned out. When you're on a product detail page, there is now an option next to the add to cart button to create a new gift basket.  As you add items, a summary of the basket is displayed at the top of the page.  You can remove items, empty the basket, or remove it from links in this summary area.

Once the gift basket is completed, you click to add it to your shopping cart.

There were a few technical hurdles, the most notable one being the fact that the site uses an external shopping cart that uses its own cookies.  Since I couldn't dump the gift basket directly to the cart, I create an intermediate page that uses DOM and PHP to build a dynamic form, and then redirect to the cart page.
